lowernine.org is offering a free electrical, plumbing and rebuilding program for residents of the Lower 9th Ward. We have trained electricians, plumbers and builders who will undertake the work using volunteers to perform the bulk of the labor, so rather than paying what a contractor would charge, you will only have to pay for materials. Depending upon the condition and size of your home, materials cost an average of $15 -$20,000 (electrical and plumbing materials average $1,500-2,000 each). You must provide the money for materials, as needed, but we will provide free labor to re-wire and re-plumb your home and replace roofs, insulation, sheetrock, windows, floors, paint and other necessary work. NOTE: Due to the limited number of volunteers we can train and organize, we can only accept a small number of jobs at any one time. We will contact you if your application is accepted.
