#foucherbuild: COMPLETE
A lifelong resident of the Lower Ninth Ward, Mrs. Foucher has faced more than her share of hardships. After the damage wrought by Hurricane Katrina, she lived with her adult daughter and her husband, a veteran, in their 6416 Urquhart Street house full of mold under a faulty roof on the verge of collapse. Her family then became victims of contractor fraud, leading to further unsafe living conditions. When her husband became gravely ill with pancreatic cancer, Mrs. Foucher became his sole caretaker and head of the household making less than $200 per week wages from a part time job. Mr. Foucher passed away in February 2017.
lowernine.org stepped in to completely renovate their home starting with replacing the leaky roof and damaged siding, with the help of Atlas Roofing and James Hardie Building Products. Further projects to replace damaged sheetrock, floor joists, and HVAC were completed with nails from Maze Nails, exterior door from the Green Project and house wrap from Benjamin Obdyke Inc. – Roof & Wall Products.
The spirit of resilience and rebirth that runs through this neighborhood is exemplified by Mrs. Foucher. This large project was completed in August 2017!
