rebuilding for our neighbors
repair & construction support for Lower 9th Ward residents
If you lived in the Lower 9th Ward before Hurricane Katrina and still call this neighborhood home, you may qualify for rebuild assistance from lowernine.org. We’re offering a limited number of spots in our volunteer-powered home rebuilding and repair program.
what we offer
- roof replacement and repair
- framing and structural repair
- window and door installation
- insulation and sheetrock
- flooring and painting
- general finishing work
All labor is provided free of charge. You are only responsible for the cost of materials. Our team will:
- assess your home
- handle framing and structural repair
- provide a materials estimate
- guide you through each step of the process
who is eligible?
To qualify, you must:
- Have lived in the Lower 9th Ward prior to Hurricane Katrina (2005)
- Be using the home as your primary residence (not a rental or investment property)
Due to a limited capacity and volunteer resources, we can only accept a small number of new applicants each year.
how to apply or ask questions
We encourage interested residents to reach out as early as possible. Please email us at [email protected] or call us at (504) 278-1240
Our staff will walk you through the next steps and let you know if spots are currently open.
see the impact
To date, we’ve fully rebuilt more than 98 homes and completed repair work on over 400 more – bringing back more Lower 9th Ward families than any other single organization.
