lowernine.org offers driving tours for individuals and small groups. Led by our team members and long-term volunteers, these guided tours provide an in-depth look at the history and ongoing recovery of the Lower 9th Ward – from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina to the everyday work of rebuilding homes, lives, and community.

Our tour is offered in exchange for a contribution to the organization, and all proceeds go directly to rebuilding homes in the Lower 9th Ward. If you’re interested in schedule a tour, please fill out our Google form.

what you’ll see

Your tour will include stops at:

  • the Mississippi River levee and the Industrial Canal flood wall
  • the site of the 2005 levee breach
  • Make It Right houses and other architectural responses to disaster
  • one of our active or recent rebuild sites
  • Lower 9th Ward landmarks and local stores

we’ll talk about

  • the neighborhood’s rich history and culture
  • the systemic challenges that shaped its recovery
  • our work and what it means to come back home after disaster
