financial transparency & accountability
we believe in putting every dollar to work – and showing you exactly how.
we believe in transparency
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, lowernine.org is committed to responsible stewardship of all donations, grants, and volunteer resources. We publish our financials so you can see exactly how we’re putting your generosity to work – rebuilding homes, operating our food pantry, and supporting residents of the Lower 9th Ward.

Since opening our food pantry in 2020, we’ve received 800,000 lbs of food!
Our food pantry has supported over 2,625 households.
Based on the 2019–2023 American Community Survey, the Lower 9th Ward’s current population is approximately 5,095 residents. That means we’ve provided enough food assistance to serve every current resident of the Lower 9th Ward about 20 times, reflecting the ongoing, repeated need for food assistance in our community.
annual 990 filings
Form 990 is a public tax return that all 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in the U.S. must file each year with the IRS. It includes information about our finances, programs, governance, and how we use donations. Think of it as our nonprofit’s annual report to the public.
We publish our 990s because we believe in full transparency – and we want you to know exactly how your support is making an impact.
