#mosesbuild: NEARLY COMPLETE
Mr. Moses is a sheriff for the New Orleans Police Department. Mr. Moses inherited his house on Delery Street after Katrina from his grandparents. His grandfather built the house in 1971 and during the rebuilding process, Mr. Moses wanted to keep as much of the original work as possible. The property is not just a home, but a token and memorial to his grandparents.
Even though Mr. Moses has lived in the house throughout the rebuild process, this house is a full rebuild. lowernine.org has repaired the entire house piece by piece by repairing the home one room (or side of the house) at a time. We have not only exchanged some old foundations, repaired the entire siding of the house, and repaired the structural aspects of the front porch, but additionally added a back porch to the house.
lowernine.org worked closely with Mr. Moses throughout the entire rebuild to ensure we incorporated his vision for the home that means so much to his familial history – and legacy. He wants to give the interior a touch of a vintage feeling, so that there is still a tribute to his grandparents.Mr. Moses worked closely with our project manager and Darren (crew leader) to ensure that the home still paid homage to his roots in the Lower Ninth Ward.
